Brethren,

Summer is winding down although it sure didn’t feel like it at nearly 90 degrees today. That being said, summer can’t be over entirely until we have our Washington Daylight Lodge 2023 Crab Feast and Potluck Picnic. I’m really excited to see our Lodge host this event with Maynilad Lodge #1521. They’re providing a very nice venue and supplying the potluck while we bring the crabs.

I hope to see everyone there, and if you haven’t been to Lodge in a while, I really hope you’ll stop by and enjoy some good food and good company. It’s such a great opportunity for everyone to get together and I love that we’re planning an event more focused on our Lodge membership. I hope it’s a sign of things to come and that we are able to do more things together going forward. A big thank you to Sheldon Rappaport for doing the major planning work. This is also the weekend of the Grand Lodge instruction so our pillar officers will be participating in that opportunity, but we hope to see them as well and have extended the invitation to our Grand Lodge officers too.

The following Saturday will be our stated communication which is on Labor Day weekend and hopefully not everyone is heading out of town.We had a great practice two weekends ago and hope to do two more before October. Everyone there did exemplary work. We have at least one candidate and hopefully more on the way. We will focus on building our bench of lodge officers and training the next generation. Lots of practice makes for good degree work and successful candidates who stay with us. Thank you to all who attended previously and if you were unable to be there, no worries, there’s plenty more work and we’ll need everyone’s help to make it through the next round of degree work.

Over the years, we placed a lot of that responsibility on our venerable brother Harold Grainger,  and it will be good to spread those duties around even though we still hope to see Harold in Lodge, commenting freely. Also, in light of the tragedy in Maui last week, we’ll be voting on a donation to a local Hawaiian relief fund or charity. Thank you in advance for your generosity and thank you to Jay Emerson for chasing it down.

Thanks all and I hope to see you on Sunday!
